I was greeted with open arms by a WONDERFUL group of women and we quickly got to work. I was happy to see that many local businesses donate fresh breads and treats to the food pantry. My type A personality came in handy today sorting all of the boxes so that all of the like items were together and it would be easy for the shoppers to see what we had.
Here are some pictures of what it was like once we were all set up and ready for our families to come:
Above you'll see the table full of freshly baked items such as breads, cookies, danishes, cakes, and rolls.
Below, there were snack items, more fresh breads, and clothing that was donated from a local consignment shop.
Above, there was a table with additional clothing and you can see the shopping carts that the shoppers can use. Our food pantry is not like most because we allow the customers to shop as if they are in a regular store and pick what they like and can use.
This is in the actual "pantry" section. It has all of the canned foods and a bunch of fridges/freezers as well. It seemed as if they did not have a whole lot in the way of cleaning products or health and beauty items so I will definitely keep that in mind while on my couponing adventures. I brought 6 toothpastes with me today and they were all gone by the end of the day.
More of the pantry:
It was a wonderful day today. Not only did I meet some great people (volunteers and customers alike) but it felt good to help. I plan on making this a regular event and will definitely continue to share some of the abundance I've been blessed with - with others.
